An Introduction

I am a consultant, trainer and facilitator in Scotland with a twenty year background as a senior manager. I have worked in community development, addictions, employability and social care and have directly managed services for vulnerable people, as well as worked at strategic level. I also have a successful track record in developing new enterprises to address issues of social exclusion and as an innovator; improving communication and staff motivation within organisations.

My experience is in both the public and voluntary sectors, in large and small organisations where I've led staff groups of all sizes up to around 120 people.

Bringing this experience to bear as a trained consultant, one of my aims is to support organisations and the people who work in them to thrive, reflect and evolve in ways that support their core purpose.

Organisations in all sectors fall into the same traps. They set out with a clear purpose and as they grow and evolve that can shift, becoming obscure and sometimes getting lost altogether.

This can lead to problems. As the organisation drifts away from its original purpose, priorities shift and people are left confused and demotivated about what they are supposed to be doing. The organisation starts to lose their energy, commitment and sometimes even their cooperation. As conflicts arise and performance is affected, the organisation tends to blame its people, rather than look at how it got itself to this point in the first place.

All organisations are, ultimately, simply groups of people. The key to solving these and other problems lies in putting people and the organisations they work for back in touch with why they are there in the first place.

This is person-centred consultancy and it applies wherever people and organisations interact.

I am passionate about working towards a society where people can feel included, be valued for their contribution and realise their potential. The world of work can and should be an outlet for rich and creative expression for all, where the benefits for the individual translate into benefits for the organisation.
